large intruder for dirty water conditions
cut 4 inch section of flex tube and attach to tube vise. no junction tubing needed with flex tube, hook inserts directly into body of fly
stard thread about an inch in front of the rear end of tube. make dubbing loop and build up dubbing ball. this helps keep hackle from collapsing in the water
tie in 8-10 strand of ostrich herl letting them extend about 1/2 inch past end of tube. this helps keep strands from fouling around hook
tie in 3-4 strands of flashabou. advance thread about an inch. wrap flashabou forward and secure. coat in head cement to withstand stress of spey casting.
repeat steps 2 and 3. make length of herl strands match that of the first set.
tie in mallard flank, hackle and secure.
tie in 8-12 strands of krystal flash and secure. build up thread head, whip finish and coat with head cement/epoxy.
after dry, remove from vise and cut excess tube on front end of fly leaving about 1-2mm. carefully melt with lighter to create lip.
fish with 8-12 feet of T11 or T14 sink tip through runs and tailouts. swing, step, repeat!
